As a Mom, I am always looking for "teachable moments", ways to work learning into everyday activities... I've had several recently... In the days prior to Micah's birthday party, I let him help me make the goodie bags. We would separate the trinkets by color, and then count each one as we put it into the corresponding bag, boy or girl. When it came time to fill the pinata, I let him help me put the candy in, we put his favorites in first {Justice League Pop Rocks}. He named the colors as we were putting them in and we counted a few of them, until that started taking too long {according to him} and we just ended up stuffing the rest in any which way. When it came time to make the cupcakes, I sent him to his grandmother's house. What?! You thought I was gonna say I let him help me cook, measure ingredients & count eggs?! Yeah, right! Not with cake flour and electric mixers, I am not a brain scientist or a mathemagician, but even I know what'll happen if you let a 3 yr old try to make a cake, so I did the logical thing and sent him away. Although, when he came home, we did count all the different cupcakes together {minus the one his sister ate before he came home} Teachable moments are all around, you just have to look for them... How many orange balloons were at the party, how many friends came to celebrate with you, how many new action figures did you get, how many pieces of cake did your Mommy eat... Ok, maybe not everything needs to be a teachable moment, but you get what I'm saying. Disclosure: I'm excited to be partnering with Best Boy Entertainment to bring you this fun contest.
