Hi!
Hi, I'm Niki, Author of Adventures of a Midlife Mommy. I am a Nashville TN born and bred, 40-something year old married Mom to two boys and 1 girl. Steven is 26 and Micah {or as I sometimes refer to him, "Surprise"} is 10. I found out I was expecting our little "surprise" when I was 35 years old. Yeah, I didn't know women THAT old could even have babies either, but here we are. He has shown me patience and energy I never knew I had.
Then there's my babygirl, Kaylee, she's my 23 year old "daughter from another mother", but I've been in her life for almost 20 years now and I love and worry too much about her as if I'd birthed her myself. She's my respite when the world of boys gets to be too much. (And my favorite dishwasher un-loader)
I have been married to my best friend, Mike, for almost 20 years and we are like two very "special" peas in a pod. We pick on each other relentlessly, we "disagree" on occasion ('til he admits I'm right), we make up, we laugh like we should be institutionalized (no offense to any readers who happen to be in an institution, but actually, it might help you better appreciate my writing ... carry on), we love and respect each other deeply and try to teach our kids to do the same.
I sometimes eat way too much junk food (I'm working on this through a lazy keto diet) and I almost always have at least 2 loads of clothes that need to be done at all times (I'm working on this too), my living room floor is full of toys scattered about just waiting to be stepped on.
My hair is usually pulled back in a messy ponytail and my favorite attire is a pair of yoga pants and a vintage T-shirt {unless I'm going out, then it's probably a tie-dye maxi skirt or something that looks like a unicorn vomited on it}.
Our home is a place where friends and family gather to watch football games in the Fall and where we gather to celebrate birthdays and milestones. It is a place where we cuddle up and watch movies together as a family, it's a place where I helped Steven with his homework (there was that one time I actually understood it, I swear); it's a place where Kaylee cried over her first real broken heart and where kisses work like magick for Micah's skinned knee; it's a place where my dear husband and I have all those late night talks that all married couples do... about hopes and dreams and aspirations and how fun it would be to just take off and travel cross country; about how the kids will all be gone one day and how the adventures will change, but never cease to exist.
