Yes, this is exactly what it looks like... 9 broken eggs.
Being a Mom is hard work. From the time we wake up until the time the last kid goes to bed we have to be on duty. We have to be a short order cook {3x a day}, a maid, a seamstress, a laundry wench, a janitor {see pic}, a taxi driver, a doctor & nurse, a friend, an activities director, a relationship counselor, a pool lifeguard, a teacher and at least a hundred other things on any given day all that while trying to do get some kind of work done on the computer. Often times I have to do several things at once, just to make sure I get them all done. For example, when I am cooking dinner, I will use it as a way to sneak in a little bit of learning time for the little one. He loves to "help" me in the kitchen, so while he is "helping", I am teaching. He's only three, so it's pretty easy to get him to play along without recognizing it for what it is. When I am making a recipe that calls for measuring, I will let him count the number of scoops for me and when I am making my famous chicken & grilled veggies, I will let him count the mushrooms and peppers and name the colors as we get them out of the fridge and all along, I will point out the shapes of stuff... the circle in the measuring cup, the rectangle drawer in the fridge or if we happen to drop a crap ton of eggs in the floor, I let him count them as I put them in the trash {see pic above}. It sounds simple and it is, but these types of everyday learning moments will be the things that stick with them. I didn't like math as a child, it seemed like a lot of work to me and I just "wasn't feeling it". To say I hated it would be an understatement! I struggled with math in high school and basically gave up, that's why it is so important for me to instill in Micah, a love for math, at a very young age. I have several weapons in my arsenal. I have the old stand-bys... flash cards, counting games like Hi Ho Cherry Oh!, Candyland, Memory, Go Fish and Chutes & Ladders and then for the days when I really need to get some work done I have the high tech options and they are virtually limitless... interactive online games, websites, smart phone apps and an unlimited amount of internet resources. So, when I need about thirty minutes of "work time" or even just 5 minutes of "me time", I let Micah play games on my phone or the computer. I am always on the hunt for something that is new, fun and will keep his interest so I was super excited when I got the opportunity to work with the awesome folks from Zorbit's Math Adventure. Zorbit's is a fun new app that will be launching in mid August. It features all the skills your child will need when they start school. Lessons include... Identifying shapes, sizes, colors and amounts, recognizing positions and classifying objects & groups as well as separating & matching. Zorbit's use of playful characters and fun voices will engage your child to learn important math concepts while they think they are merely playing games. It's akin to sneaking spinach in a fruit smoothie.... it's good for them and they don't even know it. In celebration of the upcoming release of the Zorbit's Math Adventure app, they are having a fun contest with some really awesome prizes... You can WIN a chance at a $100 gift card just for entering. Three (3) winners will be chosen by random. You can also win one of three big prizes including $200 gift card, iPad mini and an iPad for the top winners if your idea gets the most votes from readers. ***How To Enter*** Do you have a fun & creative way you teach your child about math?
