According to a recent *article by the CDC, Americans are not getting enough sleep and it is quickly becoming an epidemic. Lack of sleep is not only mildly bothersome, causing minor life disturbances, such as forgetfulness and lack of concentration. It can also cause major problems, such as hypertension {high blood pressure}, depression and obesity. *On Feb 6, 2013, a motor-coach bus bound for Texarkana crashed when the driver dozed off at the wheel. Seven people were taken to the hospital, none of the injuries were life threatening. The driver was charged with careless driving and was said to have fallen asleep and was unable to correct in time. Lack of sleep can often be caused by health problems, such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea or a neurological problem, but it can also be caused by simply having poor sleep habits. If you suffer from lack of sleep, that is not due to a health problem, there are several easy steps you can take to assure that you get the best sleep possible, according to a recent *Harvard article
Your mattress can make or break you when it comes to getting a restful nights sleep. We spend approximately 197,100 hours in bed, over our lifetime, so shouldn't those hours be spent on a comfortable mattress?! According to *WebMD, "When you lie on any part of your body for an extended period of time, the weight of it reduces the flow of blood through those blood vessels, which deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients. This causes nerve cells and pain sensors in your skin to send a message to your brain for you to roll over. Rolling over restores blood flow to the area, but it also briefly interrupts your sleep. Ideally, a mattress that reduces the pressure points on your body should give you a better night's sleep, Decker says. Yet the ideal mattress is different for each person". Which Mattress Is Right For Me? Finding the right mattress does not mean buying the most expensive one on the market. An expensive mattress is often just a sign of overly expensive materials and a well known name brand, who has to pay tons of money to market their product, which they then pass on to the consumer, it does not necessarily mean a better product. Instead of focusing on price or brand name, decide what you need most from your mattress and go from there. Do you need a firm mattress? If you have back or neck issues, probably so, but not too firm, as to put too much pressure on your tailbone or shoulders. Maybe you prefer a softer mattress? What if you want both? I have had three back surgeries and still have issues with morning stiffness and soreness, so I prefer a mattress with tons of support, but I also like a soft surface on top, so a medium firm mattress with a pillow top is what suits my needs best. The Signature 13 is "the ultimate and most luxurious mattress combining all elements of comfort and quality for an unparalleled night’s sleep. This mattress boasts 13 inches of the best materials: Rayon from Bamboo mattress ticking, a lavish memory foam pillow top, independently encased coils, and 3 zone foam. The independently encased coils and 3 zone foam ensure equal weight distribution relieving pressure along the body and prevent motion disturbance. The coils are cushioned between multiple layers of foam for years of durability and lasting comfort" Specifications of the Signature 13:
![]() When I received my mattress, it looked like a huge punching bag. It was compressed, rolled up and super wrapped up in about 3 different layers, in addition to the outer packing materials. It arrived in excellent condition, especially considering its size and weight. After peeling back all the layers of paper & plastic coverings {which I recycled}, The mattress started springing to life. It was really pretty cool, but I have to admit, I didn't really see how in the world it could ever really snap back to its original shape and be comfy. The mattress really surprised me, it was the size of a regular mattress and ready to use in minutes. The directions recommend allowing 48 hours for it to fully expand and settle and I have to agree. While it was fine to sleep on the first night, I did notice it became more comfortable over the next day or so. The outer bamboo cover is super soft and will stay nice & cool in the summer. The coils are independently encased for extra durability and the memory foam pillow top is amazing! This mattress is firm enough to provide maximum support, but with the memory foam pillow top, it's soft enough to curl up on and fall quickly asleep. Since I've been sleeping on this mattress, I have noticed a big difference in the number of days I wake up with a sore back. It has not completely fixed my back problems by any means, but I do believe the extra support from the Signature 13 has made a marked improvement in my overall quality of sleep. Now if I could just get the two and a half year old, 35 lb monster out of my bed, I'd be in heaven! I love my Signature Sleep mattress and I truly think it is one of the best mattresses I have had since I've been an adult, but you don't have to take my word for it.
