I can hardly believe my sweet little Micah has turned three. Seems like just yesterday I brought him home from the hospital, but as is life, time moves on and people age and all we can do is try to breathe it all in as it goes by, take lots of pics and party hard! Birthdays are a big deal around our house and I try to make them as much fun as possible. I like to decorate and plan the food around one central theme and this year it was Yo Gabba Gabba. This is a really fun theme and it was super easy to find coordinating stuff. I found the Yo Gabba Gabba plates, napkins & flatware at Birthday Express. They have an amazing party kit for only $20 bucks! It has everything you'll need for 8 guests! What We Played... Games are the highlight of any party and this one is no different. In addition to the Pin the eye on Muno game I found at Party City, we also played the fishing game. This is a super easy, fun game for kids of all ages. All you need is an old piece of cardboard, some sidewalk chalk, a kid's fishing pole and a fish {prize}. I had Kaylee sneak behind the backdrop while no one was looking then let the kids each take turns "fishing". I used a small "takeout" box {8/$1 at Dollar Tree} full of Yo Gabba Gabba goodies for the prize, which worked great, because you can tie the handle directly to the "line". What We Ate... Since I was going to be feeding a ton of kids, I opted to keep the menu simple, easy and budget friendly. We had hot dogs and chips, birthday cake popcorn, ham and cheese roll ups, dazzleberry punch, frozen bananas {kind of, but not really, see epic fail pics below} cupcakes for the kids and a cotton candy inspired cake for the grown ups. For the cake, I cheated and used a couple of boxes of funfetti mix I found at Aldi on clearance for .59 cents. For the frosting, I used a container of premade cream cheese frosting + a pack of Duncan Hines cotton candy flavored Frosting Creations + an additional block of softened cream cheese + a cup of powdered sugar and I mixed it well. To add a bit of whimsy and switch it up from the normal round layered cake, I made two square cakes of different sizes and filled the middle, like a usual layer cake. {actually, my round pans were in the dishwasher when I was baking the cake, so I just improvised} For the punch, I used a 2 liter of Sprite + a gallon of strawberry lemonade Hawaiian Punch + a Qt of rainbow sherbert... it was a huge hit and super easy to throw together. The frozen bananas... just didn't work. I don't know what I did wrong, but I know I did a lot of it, because it was an epic fail of epic proportions! Everything else came together nicely and the kids had a great time. I didn't get any pics of the pinata breaking, but I will give you a detailed description of what happened... Micah whacked it a few times, all the other younger kids whacked it a few times, one of the older kids whacked it, it fell out of the tree, we re-hung it, people tried to whack it again, it never broke, so Dad had to break it and subsequently my broom handle, candy and kids went everywhere, no one lost any appendages... The End. Getting Clean.. How He Thinks It's Done.... With all the colored foods at this party, you'd think I was a first time Mom, which basically I am, since it's been 13 years since I've had a little one, because every seasoned Mom knows you use muted color food {or at least a color that will match your carpet when it gets smashed into it} when feeding a multitude of young'ns, but I am a rebel and I served blue cupcakes, bright blue cupcakes... screw it, that's what bathtubs are for... YOLO!!! Eating cupcakes is a messy job, but somebody has to do it. ************************************************************** Getting Clean....How I Think It's Done...... After he licked the first layer of icing off his hands, we agreed that using the sink would probably be more effective. How It All Ended... At the end of the day, after everybody left, we were going to go to the store to pick up a couple of things {xanax... lots of xanax}, but we never even got off the block, because as soon as we buckled Micah up and started to leave the neighborhood, this is what I turned to see.
{No, I don't leave my child's buckle this lax, this pic was snapped as his sister had started un-buckling him}
