Know what sucks worse than sliding down a razor blade into a pool of alcohol... Helping your eighteen year old son clean out his room. I'm not talking just a usual Saturday vacuuming and dusting, I mean a top to bottom, full on, move the furniture, down & dirty cleaning. Disclosure: This is a sponsored post, written by me, on behalf of Music Magpie. Now, let me start by saying I am in nooo way a clean nazi. I do like for my house to be straight, but I'm not OCD about it. I have an almost three year old and two teens, I know I'm already dead in the water, so I don't set myself up for failure by entertaining the thought that my house will ever look like my Mom's, because it won't... and I'm O.K. with that. I do, however, have a few small requirements of my family...
Everyone has their usual jobs, but at least once a year, I like to do a good thorough cleaning of the most needed areas, this time just happened to be the boy's room. We were getting a new bed in that room anyway, so I figured... "Might as well clean it from top to bottom while I have the bed and frame out of here". Why didn't someone tell me to shut the hell up and get back in the kitchen where I belong, because that was the worst idea I'd had... that day. Once we got the bed and frame out of there, we found things that have yet to even be identified. There was this stuff on the floor behind the dresser, it looked like drywall or chalk or something similar to fossilized remains of God knows what. I sent it to the crime lab... it came back inconclusive. *shudders* Fortunately, I also found a few cool things as well, Steven's rock & "things" collection he's had since he was four or five. It was full of little trinkets he'd found in the yard and rocks from friend's and neighbor's driveways, it had a few old magnets and stuff that is only cool to a five year old boy. I couldn't bring myself to throw it away. We found old VHS tapes of Scooby Doo movies and some old Japanese anime videos he loved as a young boy. We found old Kids Bop CDs and an old copy of The Rugrats Go To Paris game for Wii, I think it was. There was sooo much stuff that was still in good condition, but we just didn't need it anymore. We took a few of the games to the local game store and he got a few bucks in trade and the rest of the stuff I dropped off at the local Teen Challenge kiosk down the street. I was in full effect cleaning mode, it all had to go right NOW!!! Had I been smart and more patient, I would've tried to find a way to turn all that mess into moolah. An easy Google search would've sent me to Music Magpie. What Is Music Magpie?
