​The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner, so you may be thinking of ways to take your decorating up a notch for this year’s festivities. There are lots of ways you can transform your home into a Christmas wonderland for the festivities this year and here’s how you can make it happen.

Choose Your Theme and Style

​The common colors for Christmas decorations are red and green but you don’t have to stick to
them. In today’s world, people go with alternative themes that embody their definition of
Christmas.

You can use metallic decorations like silver and different shades of blue to create a winter-
themed Christmas. Pair it with some clear string lights and fake snow to give your space the
perfect winter look. You could also try having a nature-themed Christmas with the traditional
evergreen tree as your centerpiece. For a nature-themed design, you can have mini trees made
out of wood, use dried fruit like dried apples as part of your decorative items, and include
elements like pinecones and twigs to give you the look you are going for.

Your Tree Decorations

Nothing says Christmas more than a big well-decorated Christmas tree standing pretty in your home. It is where you keep the gifts and create loads of fun memories for you and your family. Before you start your tree decorations, you have to decide on the type of tree you want. There is a real tree that can be found in a tree yard and it adds a natural fragrance to your home. You would also be contributing to the environment and creating a fun shopping experience for the kids by buying a real tree. However, it is prone to shedding and you would have to maintain it to preserve its beautiful look. The second type is the artificial tree. It is preferred by some because it can last for a long time as long as you store it properly. Some come with built-in lights and can be found in different designs. Make sure to check the needles and fluff them a bit before you take them home. 

Once you have settled on a tree, you can move on to your Christmas tree decorations. It is important to have a design before you start decorating if you want your tree to have a unified look in the end. Depending on the size of your tree, get a ladder or a small stool to help you reach hidden areas. Decorate your tree with baubles, string or compact lights, tinsel, ribbons, some antique or homemade items, and a tree topper to crown it off.

The Lights Can Make All the Difference

The right lighting can set the mood and increase the effectiveness of your decorations. Imagine
lighting your home up on Christmas Eve and seeing the smile on your loved ones faces when they see how beautiful your home looks.

Christmas lights are not for the tree alone as they can be placed on the roof, windows, fireplace,
and staircase banister. You can put it in the patio along with a mini Christmas tree to create a cozy look or in the backyard where the kids play.

Different Types of Lights

​The first type is the incandescent light and it is a bit old-fashioned. It has a good output but
produces quite a bit of heat which could make your decorations prone to burning and consumes
more power than LED lights.

LED lights are preferred by most since it doesn’t consume as much power or produce the same
amount of heat as incandescent lights. It is also a more affordable option. From these two types, you can find different designs of Christmas lights. One of the common designs is string lights which are used on Christmas trees, garlands, and are great for lighting up large areas. Another design is the pathway lights and is used for outdoor areas. Apart from string lights, you can make use of compact lights or icicle lights for your Christmas trees both big and small.

Christmas is about having fun and your decorations don’t have to be perfect. There will always
be beauty in the imperfections and what matters most, is that you create tons of memories
along the way.
