When Kaylee went back to school a couple of weeks ago, Micah wanted so badly to go with her. I explained to him that three was still too young to go to big kid's school with his sissy, but I assured him we could have our own school here at home. Since then, every day, I try to do some kind of fun, learning activity with him. Last week, we made Kool Aid Play Dough and it was a huge hit, this week we've been coloring and working on color and shape puzzles that my dear friend got him for his Birthday. I also like to involve Micah in imaginative play. Today, we took a "road trip" from the couch, we went to the grocery store and purchased a few things, got back in the car and went to Wal-Mart, where we bought a few snacks and some crayons and stickers. We are big time fort makers too. If Micah sees a sheet, he instantly wants to drape it over the middle part of the couch and hide out in it. I am pretty good at coming up with fun, imaginative stuff for us to do during "school" time, but I also want him to learn the things he will need to succeed when he finally does go to school. I think kids learn better when they don't know they are learning... when they are "playing". I tried an online learning program for kids several months ago, but I never really could get Micah to sit still and really pay attention for very long. {Maybe he was still too young} So this morning when I got a free trial from Reading Eggs, I wasn't too awfully hopeful that he would actually sit down and listen and do the activities, but he DID! He actually paid attention to the characters on the screen and I am proud to say, he can identify the letter B and b, now. We only spent a few minutes this morning going over one lesson, but I am super stoked about his progress and I can't wait to see how he does with more time on the program. What is Reading Eggs?!
