DISCLOSURE: This is a sponsored post, written by me, on behalf of SheSpeaks and Coca Cola. All opinions are my own. With summer in full effect, you've probably heard the age old "Mom, I'm bored, let's go do something" from your kids no less than 350 times a day. Me too. Luckily for me {and my kids}, I live within walking distance to an amazing park. Some days I have been known to send the older ones {18 & 15} to the park, if their "I'm bored" nagging gets too bad. I am one of the lucky ones. According to a recent study only one in five children live within walking distance (a half-mile) of a park or playground, according to a 2010 report by the federal Centers for Disease Control, making them even less inclined to play outdoors, leading to more and more time spent on the computer or watching TV. According to a survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation last year, children spend a whopping 7 hours 38 minutes watching TV every day. That seriously blows my mind. When I was a kid, during summer, I would wake up at the crack of dawn and head off on my bike to my friend Rhonda's house, a half a block down the street and I literally didn't come in until dark. We would take lunch breaks and popsicle breaks, but for the most part, we would ride our bikes in a circle around her grandparents driveway, listening to Bon Jovi and The Beastie Boys... Ahh, good times. Times sure have changed since I was a kid, but the one thing that hasn't changed is the need for some memorable summer fun. So pack a lunch, grab the kids away from the TV and get out and play at your favorite local park and when you come home, you can vote for your park to win a recreation grant from Coca Cola and the America is Your Park campaign. The hunt for “America’s Favorite Park” is on and a park in your area could win the coveted title and $100,000. The winning park will receive a $100,000 recreation grant to be used for improvements, while 2nd and 3rd will receive $50,000 and $25,000 grants, respectively. There will also be a $15,000 wildcard grant awarded to a lucky park chosen randomly from the remaining 25 spots on the leader board. Visit www.Coke.com/Parks for all details. Coca Cola and Subway want to make it easy for you to get the kids out and play. They would like to award a "Take it to the Park" fun kit to ONE of my lucky winners. The prize includes a $20 Subway gift card and a Coca Cola beach ball. Entering couldn't be easier. Check out the super easy Rafflecopter form below. Disclosure: This is a sponsored post.
