Guppies... the gift that keeps on giving. The kids got me some new fish for Mother's Day, a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday, I noticed one of the females was acting kind of funny. I knew she was verrry pregnant, so I assumed she was about to have her babies or something was wrong. I scooped her up into the breeding trap and waited... all of five minutes and then it happened... one after another, sometimes two at a time, she had her babies... all 30+ of them. Guppies are kind of like the rabbit of the fish world, they mate many, many times a day and will have a brood every 28 days and can become pregnant with up to six broods from just one single encounter with a male. Yes, even if you have zero males in your tank, theoretically, you can have six different broods of babies from a female that is pregnant when you buy her. Guppies are relatively easy to keep and with their beautiful colors are nice to look at, as well. My kids, 18, 15 and 2.5, love to watch the fish and how they interact with each other. I am looking forward to seeing how these little guys develop in the coming weeks as their colors start to come in.
I'll keep you updated. This easy recipe for puffy paint will come in handy for keeping the kids occupied during summer vacation. It's non toxic, but will possibly stain clothes, so make sure the kids are wearing aprons or one of dad's old T shirts or even a trash bag with a hole cut out would work and make sure to lay down some old newspaper under their project, to cut down on the mess.
Ok, it might not be round, but this thing is a huge lifesaver!
Even after Micah outgrew his baby tub, I continued to bathe him in the sink. It was way easier than having to kill my knees while washing him in the tub. Eventually, the easy ride came to an end and he outgrew the sink too. I broke down and started bathing him in the tub... It was miserable. The hard floor was very unforgiving on my knees as I washed him off. I was explaining to my mom the trouble I was having and she said "Here, try this under your knees next time" and handed me what looked like an old school kick board like kids use to learn to swim. I really didn't expect it to make much difference, boy was I wrong! It's like night and day. Now the only thing I dread about bath-time, is hair washing. : ) As I was planning my son's graduation party menu, I asked him what he absolutely HAD to have and this is one of the first things he asked for, right after my potato salad and crab salad. This is one of my personal favorite "cookout foods" and it's actually my mom's recipe, the one I grew up on. (with a tweak or 2 of my own)
The perfect guacamole recipe for your summer get-together. I love this recipe, it's super easy and versatile, you can make as much or little as you want... Hence the lack of exact measurements. |
