In less than three weeks, Peter Cottontail will be hopping down the bunny trail and kids everywhere (and maybe one adult in particular) will be in a state of diabetic coma from eating too much candy. I really get into Easter. The candy (especially thePeeps), the egg hunts, the pastel colors, the family traditions, all of it. I really like to decorate for the holidays, but due to our lack of ample storage space, I need to have things that can be used for multiple holidays, like this wreath, for example. I know it's Easter themed now, but I will show you an ingenious way to change it up, according to the holiday/season.

A few weeks ago, I received some awesome Easter goodies from Oriental trading Company and I have had a blast coming up with some really fun ways to use them, but I think this one just might be my favorite. Making this cute little diorama couldn't have been easier, it didn't even require any gluing and total cost was less than $3. To make this diorama, all you need is some pastel Easter grass, some pastel chenille chicks, a few glittery eggs (I picked them up at the Dollar Tree) and this cute little magnetic container I found at World Market. There's no right or wrong way to do this, I simply put all the stuff inside and put the top on. The kids (and you) will have so much fun making these and they will be so proud of themselves when they see their work displayed on the fridge. The chill is gone from the air, the temps were in the low 70's over the weekend and the buttercups have already started blooming here in Tennessee, so I know Spring is right around the corner.
You know what else that means?! It means somewhere, in the US, you will find a Mom, making some kind of "Springy" craft with their kid(s). Be it something involving eggs, grass, yellow tissue paper tulips or cotton ball bunnies. I can promise you, someone, somewhere, is doing a Spring craft and why shouldn't they, March is National Craft Month. It has recently come to my attention that I am the only living soul in my household who actually knows how to put a new roll of toilet paper on the holder, or so it would seem. Over the past 57 weeks of Christmas break, I have personally changed 1,127 empty rolls of T.P., so I decided to put together this handy dandy tutorial for my kids, so they can learn the ancient art of "Toilet paper roll replacement". My Mom taught me and her Mother taught her and so on and so forth and I feel now is the time to teach my kids, who happen to be 40, 19 and 16. The little one isn't ready yet, but I am keeping a close eye on him, as I can tell he is smart, his time is coming.

Let's face it, it is a very digital age we live in nowadays and as much as I would love to hang on to my nostalgic ideals of yesteryear and raise Micah with 5 TV channels, a land line and an old adding machine, it just isn't possible or prudent, for that matter. Who am I to hold him back, just because I want to live in the past?! I have been very wary about letting him play games or use "gadgets", but at the urging of his Dad, I bought him a tablet for his birthday. He doesn't play with it everyday, usually not even every other day and when he does, I am very picky as to what he plays. Kid's Academy, one of the most successful developers of apps for kids, has released what might be their biggest app yet. 123 Tracing is an excellent educational app designed for younger students. This cute game helps kids trace numbers and get in the habit of writing and forming these letters that they will use the rest of their lives. The free version of app is live and available to download viaiTunes, Google Play and Amazon. Kid's Academy is all about helping children learn verbal, writing and math skills in an easy and fun manner. Apps such as 123 Tracing and Bingo ABC have been top-50 educational apps in the App Store, and Kid’s Academy has also brought the well-known stories and nursery rhymes The Three Little Pigs and Five Little Monkeys to life with interactive apps. The simple interfaces of the apps allow children to take the reins and play on their own, but the sing-a-longs and other activities are perfect for parent or teacher engagement, as well. Research has shown that singing along with nursery rhymes has cognitive and physical benefits for children. Not only are children learning new words and the context in which to use them, but strengthening tongue and mouth muscles at an early age will help with pronunciation skills. About Kid's Academy: Kids Academy is an early childhood education start-up specialized in development apps for major mobile markets: App Store, Google Play and Amazon. The rapidly growing company is bringing value through education for children aged 2 to 6 teaching kids numbers, upper- and lower- case letters, word-letter associations, phonics, and spelling, and brings them endless fun and excitement through play activities.
Founded in the end of 2011 with the first application released in July 2012, Kids Academy has six nice apps and recently reached 2 million downloads. The apps developed by Kids Academy received dozens of positive reviews and were top rated by Children’s Technology and Parent Reviews. Interactive ABC by Kids Academy was featured by The Guardian in mobile tech review. DISCLAIMER: This is a sponsored post, written by me, on behalf of the iMommy app, all opinions are my own. One of the big things for me has been allowing him to play games. I, admittedly, used games and TV as a babysitter way too often with my oldest son (19 years ago) and when I had Micah, I swore to myself I wouldn't do that this time around, so I have been very wary about letting him play games or use "gadgets", but at the urging of his Dad, I bought him a tablet for his birthday. He doesn't play with it everyday, usually not even every other day and when he does, I am very picky as to what he plays. I am lucky that Micah is not uber obsessed with the "gadgets", he's more content to sit in the floor playing with his Batcave, saving the good guys from the bad guys, which is fine with me, but there are times when I really need to keep him occupied, like when I am at the Doctor or if we are on a long car trip, there are several apps, I am glad I have. Of course there are the old standards, the one with the birds, the one with the fruit, the one with the winged monkeys chasing you down a narrow corridor in the jungle and there's my new fave, iMommy. iMommy is an interactive learning game, designed for ages 2-10, but can be enjoyed by older kids as well. I can even see this as being useful for special needs kids. iMommy is available on ipad or iphone for 2.99 or you can get the lite version for FREE! It is currently only available on ios, but will be debuting on Android in December. The "goal" of the iMommy app is to keep your baby happy, by doing all the things a Mommy would normally do. Feeding, changing, playing, bathing etc. I love this app for several reasons. It has tons of customizable options, you can choose from four different ethnicities, you can choose your baby's hair, eye and clothing colors and each baby has different options, so it makes for a new experience every time you make a new baby, as well as teaching your little one their colors. There are five different rooms or scenarios you can interact with. The bedroom features an interactive teddy, mobile, blanket, lights and more. There's also a bath time, kitchen, diaper time and play time scenario, each full of interactive options. The kitchen is full of foods that baby loves and even a couple of things she doesn't. As any good Mommy would do, you need to clean your baby when she's messy and the diaper scenario is as real as it gets, without the smell. All work and no play is fun for no one, so you can entertain your baby in the playtime area, where you can soothe baby with a teether or play some music, there's even some interactive toys too. The iMommy app is sure to keep your little one busy for a while with all the interactive play and it also teaches empathy and responsibility. Check out iMommy for yourself for FREE and be sure to "like" iMommy on Facebook to stay up to date on all the happenings. |
