DISCLOSURE: I am a member of the World Market Trendsetter Tribe and I received gift cards to facilitate this post, however all opinions and experiences are my own. Having several kids can be both a blessing and a curse. For example, if you have tons of chores that need to be done, multiple kids is definitely the way to go, but when it comes to going out and doing anything that requires spending money, less is best. Seriously, have you been to the movies lately?! If you have more than one kid, probably not. Everything is sooo expensive nowadays, it's usually just cheaper to grab a movie from the corner rental box thingy, grab a few snacks and chill at the house, which is exactly what we did last weekend. With a little help from the awesome food and drink section at World Market and these easy tips, you, too can have an awesome family movie night at home, where pajama pants are perfectly acceptable.

I made these amazing little bundles of gastronomic joy last weekend, for our "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" themed family movie night. I am not Betty Crocker, but I do use her mixes, often and with a few little secret "hacks", you can doctor a box mix into something worth writing home about. (Click Below For Recipe)
It's that time of year again. The time of year when the hubby and I are "hood rich" for all of three days and spend way too much money on sushi... It's income tax refund time. We have 3 awesome little deductions and Uncle Sam withholds more during the year, so we usually end up with a pretty nice refund. Hubby's a pretty smart guy, he files our taxes early, so we usually have our refund back by mid February and that's when the two day, all out shopping spree begins. This year, I got new glasses and contacts, the kids got a few new summer outfits & shoes and hubby got a new Nokia Lumia 521 smartphone with unlimited talk, text and web for less than $40 a month, from Walmart Family Mobile, which is the lowest mobile service I have found and the best thing is, it's available at Walmart, for less than $100 bucks. The Nokia Lumia 521 is an awesome phone, Hubby loves his. He wasn't really sure he'd like it, because he wasn't familiar with the Windows operating system (he was an Android guy), so we read the reviews on it, before we bought it and fortunately, they were right, the phone is super fast (1 ghz processor) and very user friendly. It has an awesome camera and runs all his favorite apps and games (of course, it makes/receives phone calls too). Walmart had a really nice selection of phones, in case the Windows OS isn't your thing, they also have several Android phones under $100 too. After you choose your phone, all you need to do is grab a quick start kit, which contains your SIM card and activation info and head to the check out. Easy peasy! When you get home, you can easily activate your phone, by going to the Walmart Family Mobile website, answer a few questions (name, address, etc), choose a plan(39.88+tax for the UNLIMITED talk, text and web) and you're all set. It is quick, easy and completely painless. As a matter of fact, we ended up saving almost $20 a month on Hubby's bill when we switched to Walmart Family Mobile, which I am planning to save and eventually buy myself a new phone too. So, if Uncle Sam owes you a little bit of change this year, you can either invest a hundred bucks in a new smartphone from Walmart Family Mobile or you could always stock up on candy... Or.... Or Maybe Even... Ok, so maybe that last one isn't fair, but you know you need a new phone wayyy worse than the cookies, because you can call and check on your kids with a phone, but not a cookie. (but if you do happen to buy a box or two, on your way out of the store, I won't tell and personally, I suggest the Do-si-dos with a huge glass of milk.... while reading about something yummy on my blog, with your new smartphone)
DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy of Toopy & Binoo to facilitate this post, however all opinions are my own. Being a "blog from home" Mom can be a daunting job. With all the normal daily stuff I have to do... cooking, washing clothes, doing dishes, cleaning up minor catastrophes and about a million other things, I also have my blog work to keep up with as well. To say there aren't enough hours in the day, is an understatement, so I have learned to be very creative with how I use my time and I am not ashamed to admit, I let Micah watch TV while I try to get some work done, be it washing clothes, or writing blog posts, the TV is my friend.
Now, before you start writing me hate mail, telling me how bad TV is for kids' development and how it rots their brains and causes them to grow up to become serial killers, cool your jets, it's a minimal amount of TV time and it's not like I let him watch "Breaking Bad", I mean, come on, everybody knows it's been off the air for months. I kid. So, if not "Breaking Bad", then what do I let him watch?! Well, as much as I tried to persuade him to like the old school classics I loved as a child, Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, etc, it just didn't happen. He is more into the new stuff like Caillou (kill me now), Doc McStuffins (tolerable), Lego anything (not bad) and his new favorite, Toopy & Binoo. What the heck is a "Toopy & Binoo", you ask?! DISCLOSURE: As a Fabkids blogger, I received complimentary outfits to facilitate this post, however all opinions are my own. When the folks over at Fabkids.com issued me the challenge to style one shirt 5 ways, I wasn't sure I could pull it off, then I saw all the cool new picks and I knew it would be a piece of cake. What I didn't realize however, is how hard it would be to get a three year old to "pose" for pictures. DISCLOSURE: I was provided with complimentary products to facilitate this post, however all opinions are my own and not swayed by any products received. In a typical day, I... fix breakfast, wash clothes, find lost socks, answer emails, write posts, fold clothes, find another lost item, tend to minor medical "issues", feed kids lunch, take out the trash, drive eldest to work, decide what to cook and cook supper, load dish washer, bathe the little one, fold another load of clothes, fight with the little one to go to sleep, go pick the eldest up from work, sit in my comfy chair for all of ten minutes, then go to bed. With all the stuff I have to accomplish on a daily basis, it's no wonder why I often forget to do stuff... like eat. Well, eat well anyways. I often catch myself snacking on Micah's leftover breakfast or a sandwich I threw together in between the million other things I do during the day. I used to buy the pre-prepared, crappy, processed, convenience foods that we all fall into the trap of buying from time to time, but once I educated myself on all the nasty stuff in those "convenience" foods, I quickly decided the "convenience" was not worth the possible damage it could do to myself and my family, so I now make a conscious effort to make better food choices. Lucky for me, the food companies are starting to follow suit, by cutting out the nasty high fructose corn syrup and all the junk that steers us away from buying, all the while, keeping the convenience we all want. My recent favorites are these awesome new products from Del Monte. |
